Book Review–Make Space: How to Set the Stage for Creative Collaboration

The USC Rossier School of Education recently published my review of Make Space: How to Set the Stage for Creative Collaboration on their blog for the online Master of Education program.

Make-Space, John Wiley and Sons, 2012Whether you are a professional space planner serving clients, an ordinary worker who needs to make your work space more functional or a typical homeowner trying to create a home office, you will find something useful in this workbook.

The contents are the product of years of experimentation by the leaders of  Stanford University’s Hasso Platner Institute of Design. Each of the more than 100 entries runs only a few pages, making for quick reading and immediate usefulness.

Make Space runs the gamut from design philosophy to small, practical projects that are presented like recipes in a cookbook. The organization of the book comes as close to hyperlinked digital media as is possible in a physical book, with the contents indexed two different ways and related topics presented at the end of each entry.

The ideas you will find here are surprisingly affordable and can be executed by people without much design or assembly expertise. You may easily save the cost of the book on one project.

Frazeology end note
